Lauren CovingtonBrooke and Don were hosting their wedding weekend in Tulum, Mexico and wanted their invitations to be sophisticated, romantic, bohemian and with hints of traditional Mexican design. To achieve a more sophisticated palette, we avoided vibrant festival colors, and found inspiration in the region's natural settings for a bold color scheme. For a dramatic first impression, we used moody, wine-colored envelopes that were hand-addressed in gold brush ink by Jaymie Eaton. I still can’t get over how precise her lettering is for the guests’ addresses! The return address and floral illustration was foil-stamped in gold on the back, and our...

Lauren CovingtonWhen I first met with Kira and Trey, the top priority for the couple was to create a welcoming invitation that had hints of festive, tropical graphics and understated elegance for their four day celebration in the Mexican Riviera Maya. For the color palette, we steered clear of typical over-saturated “fiesta” colors, and selected natural, sunbleached colors accented by soft metallics. We honored Mexico’s flora and fauna by incorporating lush palms and sweet little animals throughout the invitation. No time was wasted to profess our love of tropical creatures -- we letterpressed a mischievous monkey on the dusty-blue envelope to...

Lauren CovingtonBack to bachelorette fun times! For Tessa's "final fiesta" I created a margarita-inspired invitation with geometric shapes and bold pops of green, peach and black. The front was adorned with a real cocktail umbrella, and the back had all the fun details with a pull-out weekend itinerary in a tiny black envelope. Envelopes were bright green and addressed with bold, black brush lettering. I used a Pentel Color Brush Pen for the guests' names -- this pen has a huge ink tube that you squeeze into the brush, so it gives a very authentic painted look. I'm a fan-- and you can get it on Amazon....

Lauren CovingtonThis wedding suite made me want to pull out cozy wool blankets and the spiked-apple cider right away! Taylor unabashedly loves orange which was a no-brainer to use for her fall wedding, and a not-so-secret tribute to her beloved Texas Longhorns. We ran with the idea of using lots of copper, fall florals and romantic details for this black tie wedding.First impressions are important! The first thing guests would see when they opened the interior envelope was lined with a fall floral displaying sophisticated hues orange, wine, plum and forest green. True story: another client saw a sample of this...

Lauren CovingtonI wrote a book! This is such a strange and exciting post for me to write. In October of last year, I was hanging out at my husband’s temporary work apartment in Colorado trying to entertain our just-turned 1-year-old when I received a message from a publisher asking if I was interested in writing and illustrating a how-to book on metallic notes. Metallic notes? What’s that? A lot of my work is foil-stamped, which is a printing process that involves huge printing machines, laser-engraved magnesium plates, and wonderful, wise professionals who have been in the printing business longer than I...
