Ashley and Garret were planning the most fabulous wedding and reception at Brazos Hall in the heart of downtown Austin. The turn-of-the century warehouse provided lots of inspiration for the invitations, as it's the quintessential example today's Austin, where old meets new with rustic wooden floors, exposed brick walls and sweeping rooftop views of the city.
For the invitation, we knew we wanted to capture the southern charm and incorporate modern aesthetics that make Austin unique. I started by hand-lettering their names to give the invitation a bold and playful look, and accented the rest of the text with a mix of clean lines, flourished and tiny dots for extra glam.
We skipped the traditional RSVP card and ribbon-wrapped a small tag around the invitation to direct people to the couple's wedding website. The lithographic-style hand graphic added a nice touch of nostalgia and humor.
The invitation was letter-pressed in matte gray ink and gold-foil printed on double-ply Lettra paper for a luxurious feel. The 100% cotton paper creates the best impression for letterpress. Lettra is the ultimate!
Since Austin is such a fun destination, the couple wanted to include a functional map of their favorite watering holes, dance halls and coffee in the city, complete with hand-drawn icons. The map was offset-printed in gray on matte blush paper.
Side note: two-stepping at the The White Horse is not to missed. Find the oldest person to dance with for the best two-stepping lesson!
