I had the pleasure of working with my friend and jewelry designer Rannie Balias, to create a one-of-a-kind-wedding invitation inspired by the ceremony venue, James Turrell's Live Oak Friends Meeting in Houston, Texas. Rannie and I share a love for Futura, the color grey, and neutral metallics. Thinking about Turrell's skyspace, it was important for light to interact with the invitation. We started with a square shape, mixing matte and metallic papers, with touches of geometric shapes throughout the suite. I've been trying to come up with a pretty "I Can't say "I Do" Without You" card for what seems like a year. It would be embarrassing to even show the many drafts of this design that were over-designed with swirls and dots that didn't quote feel like me. After leaving the project alone for awhile I just wrote it out quickly with a Tombow brush pen and thought, "There it's is! That's the design I want to make."
